Jason --
I'm a Joel/Joell/Jowell researcher & because the similar sound of the name to Jolls -- the long 'o' -- please correct me if I'm wrong -- I have kept a eye out for any possible connection. The following might be from the Colonial Records. Uunfortunately I did not note the source, nor is there any indication of which area of the Americas.

"1692 May: Monopolu for 14 years of new diving suit for recovery of goods from wrecks etc to Isaac Thompson, Capt Benjamin Graves, Thomas Joel & John Cuthbert. Subscribed by Atty-Gen by Queen's signing manuel warrant. Procured by Earl of Nottingham."

I have been attempting to figure out who the other fellows were. It's possible that one was Capt Isaac Thompson of Rhode Island. He was born in NY, children born in Rhode Island & baptized in Connecticut. His narrative on WorldConnect says he "commanded a brigantine and sailed to Jamaica and Barbados."

It's entirely possible that my Joell's in Bermuda in the 1600s were originally Joll's from Cornwall.
