Rumored to be able to add up in his head the numbers on the sides of passing box cars (i.e. each train box car would have a number on it like 9324 and he could add up these numbers to come up with one big total for the entire train).
Watsontown Civic Leader Stricken At Home, Sunday

Kenneth C. Patton, 37, Watsontown RD 2, owner and operator of Patton's Pharmacy, Main St., Watsontown, and outstanding civic leader for that community, died very suddenly of a heart attack in the yard at his farm home at 3:30 pm Sunday.
Mr. Patton, a graduate of Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in 1943, had received the highest average ever given at the college to that date.
Mr. Patton had been engaged in placing a small tractor, or "cat" on a truck prior to coming to Watsontown Sunday afternoon to clean the snow from sidewalks at the pharmacy site. Prior to that he had removed snow from sidewalks at the farm home, and was with his son, Wayne, 12, when he was attempting to place the tractor. He was stricken very suddenly, and his son ran immediately to the home, to summon Mrs. Patton.
Medication, which was kept on hand for emergency was used by Mrs. Patton in an attempt to revive him: however, in desperation she ran to he road and hailed a passing motorist. The second car to stop was driven by a physician. Dr. Allen J. Hannen, Williamsport, who examined Mr. Patton. Meanwhile, Dr. J. E. Biddle, Watsontown and the West Branch Volunteer fire company ambulance were summomened as well as members of Mr. Patton's family in Watsontown. Dr. Biddle confirmed Dr. Hannen's diagnosis of death.
Mr. Patton was born July 3, 1923, at Danville RD, a son of Torrence D. Patton, North Elm St., Watsontown, and the late Ada Clark Patton. He resided in Watsontown since 1935, and was graduated from Watsontown high school in 1940. He was graduaed from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in 1943. Prior to obtaining his own business at the corner of East Brimmer Ave. and Main St., Watsontown, he was employed by Rea and Derick pharmacies at Danville and State College.
Outstanding in service to the community, and active in the business and social life of the borough, he was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Air Force in Japan; member of First Lutheran church: F and AM lodge 401, Watsontown; Watsontown Lions club; West Branch Volunteer fire company; a member of Clyde F. Mowrer Post 323, Watsontown; Harvey C. Huff Post 8698, VFW, Watsontown; Milton Sportsman's Club; Elks and Moose clubs, Milton, and the Pennsylvania Pharmaceutical Association. He served as treasurer for the Santa Claus merchants' and businessmen's program in Watsontown for several years.
Surviving are his wife, the former Kay Pickin, formerly of Danville; two sons, Wayne, a pupil in seventh grade at Warrior Run high school, and Donn, a pupil in fifth grade at Watsontown elementary school; his father, T. D. Patton, Watsontown RD.
Funeral services, in charge of Paul Cronrath funeral home, Main St., Watsontown, will be held at 2:30 pm tomorrow from First Lutheran church, Main St., Watsontown. The Rev. Harry S. Bowman, his pastor, will officiate, and interment will be made in Watsontown cemetery.
There will be no visitation.

Funeral services for Kenneth Patton, 38, Watsontown RD, were held at 2:30 pm, yesterday from the First Lutheran church, Watsontown, with the Rev. Harry S. Bowman, officiating. Interment was in the Watsontown cemetery and carriers were John Gerth, Robert Whitmoyer, James Seebold, James Cotner, Paul Klapp, Walter McMillen, Carl Reed and Ned Cook. Arrangements were in charge of the Cronrath funeral home, Watsontown.
Served in World War II.
